Option 1: Default Coverage
When considering your moving options with Lyons Moving, it's essential to understand the coverage available to you as a customer, particularly if you're seeking reliable Chicago movers or professional movers in Chicago. Our primary coverage, provided at no additional cost, is our default protection plan. Under this plan, any items damaged during the move will be compensated at a rate of $0.30 per pound per article. For instance, if an item weighing 50 lbs. were to sustain damage, Lyons Moving would provide $15.00 in compensation. While this option offers basic coverage, it's crucial to recognize that it may not fully reflect the value of your possessions, particularly if you're transporting high-value or fragile items. Nonetheless, it does afford a degree of protection for your belongings in the event of damage during transit.
Option 2: Declared Value
Our current policy with our insurance we can provide you up to $50,000 coverage for shippers’ goods while in transit including loading and unloading and this is only if you want to choose a higher valuation, and if so, it must be for the full shipment not specific items. If you do decide to choose a higher valuation, we would charge you 100 cents per each $100.00. You will need to declare the higher value in your own handwriting and sign in the lower left corner on the bill of landing/ contract that the foreman of the crew will provide you on the day of the move. Keep in mind that this value of charges is only a depreciated value it’s not a replacement cost.
Here is a scenario for the Declared Value, if you decide to declare a value for your full shipment of $20,000 you will pay us $200. If for any reason an accident occurs and there is a total loss of your items our insurance will cover the declared value that you wrote on the contract. Now if only one item was damaged, and you had declared a value for the shipment our insurance will be responsible to reimburse the depreciated value of the item. This means that we will assess the current market value of the item, considering factors such as its age, condition, and any wear and tear.
Option 3: Third-Party Insurance
This insurance is provided by a third-party insurance company. We have been affiliated with them for a couple of years. If you are looking for maximum coverage for your items, our third-party option is a great choice. This full-replacement insurance plan is ideal for loads that contain high-value goods or for very complex moves. While this option offers the highest level of protection, it's essential to note that it is also the most expensive one. However, we believe it's worth the investment to safeguard your valuable possessions. Please be aware that our default coverage will still be included in your contract, and you'll need to sign it accordingly.
